Kathie Opel is the Founder and Board President of Edwardsville Neighbors. She grew up in Bethalto, and married into the Edwardsville community in 2004. She received a B.S. in Mass Communications from SIUE, and a J.D. from St. Louis University School of Law. She is an attorney with the Weinheimer Law Firm, specializing in corporate law, real estate and estate planning. Kathie and her husband, Chad, feel lucky to be raising their daughters in the Edwardsville community.


Chad Opel is the Founder and Board Treasurer of Edwardsville Neighbors. He is a life-long Edwardsville resident. He graduated from EHS in 1998, where he was a part of the undefeated State Championship baseball team. He then joined the Cougar baseball team and graduated from SIUE in 2002. Chad is a Wealth Management Advisor and Managing Director with Visionary Wealth Advisors, and is passionate about helping families plan their financial futures. Additionally, Chad serves as Board Treasurer for the Edwardsville Children’s Museum, and also serves on the SIUE Foundation board as well. Chad and his wife, Kathie, feel very lucky to be raising their daughters, Samantha (2014) and Ellie (2016), in the Edwardsville community.


Veronica Ambuehl serves as Board Vice-President and Marketing Co-Chair of Edwardsville Neighbors. She made Edwardsville her home in 1995, and loves all this thriving community has to offer, especially the restaurants, and unique small businesses. She has one son, Cale, an architecture student at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. Employed at St. Louis advertising agency, Rodgers Townsend since 1999 she is also owner of home-based Vine Floral Design, established in 2012. She loves working with clients across the Metro-East and St. Louis, designing florals for special events and gifts. She earned her B.S. in Business Administration from Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri.

Brooke Frye serves as Secretary and Memberships Co-Chair for Edwardsville Neighbors. Originally from Bethalto, she attended SIUE before entering Logan College of Chiropractic. Upon graduating from Logan, she and her husband, Dr. Clint Frye, established their private practice in Edwardsville in 2007.  In 2016 they relocated their practice to a new facility in Glen Carbon and are proud to continue to serve the residents of Edwardsville, Glen Carbon, and the surrounding communities.

Clint Frye serves as Nominations Co-Chair for Edwardsville Neighbors.  He has been in the Edwardsville community since 2007.  He and his wife Dr. Brooke Frye are the practicing physicians at FRYE Functional Health Center in Glen Carbon, which is a functional and holistic medicine practice emphasizing nutrition, acupuncture, and chiropractic.  He earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic degree from Logan College of Chiropractic in 2007 and also attended the University of Illinois where he obtained his B.S. in Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, and Athletic Training.

Michelle Motley serves on the board for Edwardsville Neighbors. Michelle, her husband, Mark, and her 4 children live in Glen Carbon. She and her family are passionate about the serving the community and helping others. Michelle also owns and works at Source Juicery in downtown Edwardsville.

April Slagle serves as a board member for Edwardsville Neighbors. April and her husband Chad made Edwardsville their home in 1997. She attended Illinois College in Jacksonville, IL and received her B.S and M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from SIUE. She is currently home with their four children, Grayson, Mabry, Hudson, & Nola. She enjoys volunteer work in the community and is part of the team at her husband’s financial firm, Slagle Financial.

Katie Wigton serves as a Board Member since 2015. She grew up in Bethalto, IL and after high school attended Eastern Illinois University. Katie graduated in 2003 with an Elementary Education degree and then earned her Masters in Education at Lindenwood University in 2005. She taught 3rd grade in St. Louis for 4 years and then 2nd grade for five years in Birmingham, AL. Katie is married to her wonderful husband Eric and they have 2 children. After many years of being away from Illinois, they made Edwardsville their home to be closer to family and friends. Katie is an active member of the Junior Service Club of Edwardsville and loves giving back to this wonderful community.

Ryan Govreau serves as Marketing Co-chair for Edwardsville Neighbors. Ryan has been a resident in the area for over 25 years, until recently moving to Godfrey, Illinois with his wife Kara. They love the growing Glen Carbon and Edwardsville communities and plan to make their way back to the area in the next few years. Employed at World Wide Technology as an Instructional Designer and eLearning Developer in Supply Chain Operations, Ryan is also owner and photographer of Aperture Moments Photography, and an Adjunct Professor for the Webster University School of Communications. Ryan graduated from Webster University St. Louis in 2013 holding three credentials; Master of Educational Technology, B.A in Interactive Digital Media, and B.A in Advertising and Marketing Communications.

Carie Terry serves as a board member for Edwardsville Neighbors. Carie lived in the Edwardsville area until the age of 15 when her family moved to Jupiter, FL where she finished her education and worked for several years. Carie and her husband Eric choose Edwardsville to raise their three children: Jordan (22), Anthony (20) and Maggie (11). She enjoys working to help better our community by being active in numerous local and charitable organizations, including St. Boniface Church and School, and Make A Wish Foundation.
